Pass the CPA Exam – If you are in the audit or tax department, make this your priority. MC&E will help you by providing time at work to study and be paid time off to take the exam.

Develop Mentoring Relationships – A recent study found that in 4 out of 5 promotions, those promoted had a strong mentoring relationship with a senior staff member, who helped spread the good word about them. At MC&E you will have a mentor assigned to you on the first day. Talk to your mentor about your work related challenges and successes.

Acquire New Knowledge and Skills – It goes without saying that one of the best ways to succeed in getting a promotion is to expand your knowledge and skill sets in areas that are critical to the firm. Explore the different niches and start to specialize as much as you can.

Networking and Marketing – Learn as much as you can about MC&E and our clients. As your knowledge of our clients increases, you will recognize their needs and can develop solutions that provide them value. Public accounting is as much about communication as it is numbers. Marketing can be as simple as excellent client services but it also includes: representing the firm at trade shows, writing articles for publication, participating in golf outings as well as developing relationships with prospective clilents.

Be Professional at all Times – Earn a reputation for being dependable, professional and cooperative. Make sure to keep a positive outlook on things, especially in tough situations. MC&E’s mission is to be a solution for our clients; become a problem solver, not merely a problem recognizer. After your first year you will begin to proactively develop solutions that help clients reduce risk, operate more efficiently and save money.

Be a Team Player – Because much of the work at MC&E is accomplished through Teams – departmental or cross-functional – it becomes even more important for individuals to work together. The result is a superior set of resources directed by our principals to deliver results.
